FTP to your localhost on Mac OSX

A great feature of Wordpress is that you can install and delete plugins through the FTP functionality in the admin panel. Although it never worked on my locally installed Wordpress. After a couple try-outs, the solution is quite simple, so you can FTP with the user name and password of your computer account.

System Preferences - SharingFile SharingFile Sharing - OptionsEnable FTP and grant your user

  1. Open up your System Preferences
  2. In your Internet & Network settings, click on Sharing
  3. Check File Sharing
  4. Select the File Sharing Options
  5. Check “Share files and folders using FTP
  6. Check your user name
  7. Now you can FTP to your current IP address with the user name and password of your computer
